Foundation Issues Response to FCLB Model
Practice Act for Chiropractic Regulation

The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards has released a draft of their Model Practice Act for Chiropractic Regulation.  The FCLB task force is accepting comments regarding three sections of the draft document.  Deadline for commentary has been extended from December 27th, 2010 to January 15, 2011.

The Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation has responded to this issue, and encourages all members of the profession to participate in this opportunity.  While this document is still in development stages by FCLB, it will undoubtedly impact the chiropractic profession.  In addition to the Foundation, Dr. Gerry Clum, the International Chiropractors Association, and the Georgia Chiropractic Council have also taken action to alert the profession on this topic.  Dr. Clum notes that "he draft work effort is of concern to me for many reasons, not the least of which was its emphasis on subjects that are up for change by the CCE in mid January."

"Recently the chairmanship of the FCLB committee changed.  It now appears the intent of the 'Model Act' may be changing too," states Dr. Steve Welsh of the GCC and ICA Board Member.  "Instead of presenting the 'Best in Regulation', the draft now includes a smorgasbord of all possibilities, both the good and the bad.  Needless to say, modifying the 'Model' to accommodate the prescription of medicine & drugs as pioneered by the New Mexico Board of Examiners cannot be viewed as a good idea.  A chiropractic formulary and chiropractic medicine do not belong in a 'Model Chiropractic Act.'"

In light of the volume of activity surrounding the recent CCE Draft Standards, the Foundation hopes to see the subluxation-based chiropractic community respond to the FCLB en masse.  Comments by individuals and organizations may be submitted through the FCLB's online form, found here .

We thank those who have shared their comments on other issues within the profession in previous months.  Please continue to share your responses so that we may continue to organize a united front to protect chiropractic.  Email the Foundation with your comments at
